Here’s an abbreviated overview of how to apply. Please carefully read and follow instructions from the official NIAC 2020 solicitation document in preparation for submitting. To initially apply to NIAC, you’ll only need to submit a 3-page white paper on your concept.

Submissions will be accepted beginning June 3, 2020. The deadline to apply is July 22, 2020. Apply here.

Proposals are to be submitted via NSPIRES. If you’re new to using NSPIRES, be sure to check out this helpful guide on the basics.

Applying to NIAC is a two-step process. Proposers initially submit a short Step A proposal (the 3-page white paper) through NSPIRES for evaluation. If invited to provide additional information, proposers will be asked submit a Step B (i.e. more detailed) proposal. Evaluators will select awards based from those who have submitted a Step B proposal.

Individual proposers must apply under an organization; either their own or a partner organization. NIAC is open to citizens and permanent residents in the United States. Non-U.S. individuals may participate in NIAC studies on a no-exchange of funds basis, and subject to NASA’s policy on foreign participation. See Section 3.3 of the SpaceTech-REDDI-2019 NRA and Appendix A of the 2018 version of the NASA Guidebook for Proposers for further information.
